MEET US on Tuesday, July 20 at Peshabestown. Lunch will be at 1:15pm in the Double Eagle Restaurant at Leelanau Sands Casino. Following lunch, we will go to the Eyaawing Museum and Culture Center. Completed in 2009, the museum focuses on the history and traditions of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Cindy Patek, curator of the museum, will speak to us. Following Cindy’s presentation, we will be free to explore the museum at our own pace. Peshawbestown is on M-22 just 3 miles north of Suttons Bay. You will pass the museum on your right before arriving at the Double Eagle Restaurant on your left (parking is on the left just beyond the Double Eagle). A buffet of soup (6 choices), salad bar, beverage and soft ice cream will be $9 total.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 17: Program: “In the footsteps of Bruce Catton,” Historic Benzonia. Dr. Louis Yock, Director of the Benzie Area Historical Museum, will be our speaker. We will meet at 12:00pm for a brown bag lunch in the Gwen Frostic Room of the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6914 Traverse Ave., in Benzonia. The museum is about 25.6 mi. from Chum's Corner, west on US-31. The program and a museum tour will follow. There is no admission fee to the museum, but a donation of at least $1/pp would be appreciated. (The visit alone is worth it!
