INVESTING IN MISSION

A CAPITAL CAMPAIGN that is dedicated to building better futures for people living in poverty rather than paying for a building project is a rare and extraordinary undertaking, particularly for a congregation that already has one of the largest mission outreach efforts in the community. Even the modest increase in 2009 pledges, in the face of a severe economic recession, is no ordinary accomplishment. Who could blame us for choosing to just maintain the present level of support for mission outreach?

WHAT WOULD GOD have us do as we watch the staggering losses in jobs, investments and increased home foreclosures? Would He give us a pass based on past performance or would He ask us to do more because we are capable of doing even more? That is the question that each of us must wrestle with as we prayerfully consider our response to the “Investing in Mission campaign.”

YOU HAVE HEARD about each of the five (5) designated mission projects and hopefully had an opportunity to view their exhibits at the mission fair. These projects have aggressive and sound strategies for growth. A great deal can be accomplished with this one-time infusion of capital funding.

THE CAMPAIGN LEADERSHIP has injected a little fun in to the pledging process. You probably read about the stock purchase feature in the campaign booklet. A share of stock can be purchased by pledging $2.50 per month for 36 months. Partial shares can also be purchased. Investors will receive a stock certificate. Pledge amounts will be confidential.

CAMPAIGN WORKERS, members of Session and its committees, deacons and others gave the campaign a jump start by making their pledges on Sunday, May 3. These advance stock sales helped set the pace for the rest of the campaign. General stock sales continue to occur with a final stock sale offered in the narthex on May 24. Please participate as you are able.

Please do not hesitate to direct questions to one of the campaign directors, Bob Simpson (932-2034) or Bonnie Willings (929-2036). Their email addresses are robert.k.simpson@ssa.gov and bkwillings@yahoo.com.
